I know but I can't get a picture onto the profile. It asks for the URL and the only thing I know that does that is 'Hello' which for the life of me I can't figure out.
I also had wondered how pics got onto the site or comments, so I did trial and error about a week ago. I found a pic on Google Images, copied the shortcut and then I think I copied the shortcut into my profile section, where they ask you for a photo URL or linking URL, something like that. Try it.
TP - That is a risky way of doing it. If they take down the picture you won't have a picture any more. And if they get upset that someone is using the picture they could replace it with one that you might not be too happy with.
I got a sense that it's an image bank--photos/images are meant to be used and adapted. Somehow I just stumbled onto it when I googled "pearl in oyster."
check out Treppenwitz's blog for a story about using bandwidth. When you link to an image someone else is hosting, like Air said, you at the mercy of what they put there.

It is tied into your profile.
